The Lodge

The Maine Youth Fish and Game lodge is located on the shore of Pickerel Pond in Twp 32MD, Hancock County.

The lodge was started in 2001, and with the help of many completed later that year. The lodge served us well for many years, but as our success grew, we knew we needed more space.

In 2012 we initiated a capital campaign and with the financial support of a great community, we were able to build a 28ft by 36ft addition with full foundation. This space has allowed us to have a huge great room to use for feeding campers, hold meetings, and hold training courses.

Adirondack Shelter

Maine Youth Fish and Game has six 8ft by 10ft Adirondack shelters on our property. These are 4 sided shelters with a large screened front window and can be used by the general public as long as scheduled by our staff. All shelters have a front porch area with one being at ground level for easy access. To schedule the use of the Adirondacks, email us at:

Each shelter has a movable platform that can be used for sleeping or gear storage.

50 Yard Range

In 2015, MYFGA submitted a $50,000 grant request to improve the range facility. Land boundary lines and a protected kettle hole bog made it impossible to expand the existing range to 100 yards. The decision was made to maintain the 50 yard range, and embark on a project to develop a totally new 100 yard range on our property.

We were successful with both the 2015 & 2016 grants, for a total of $100,000 in grant funds that are designated to range improvements.

The 50 yard range received some much needed ground work in Fall of 2016, and now has covered shooting stations on a concrete slab. Use of this range is intended for small arms and archery.

Both shooting ranges are open from sunrise to sunset, unless otherwise posted, and are free to the public. We strictly enforce a carry-in/carry-out policy for your targets, brass and trash. Please follow all rules posted on site. The property is monitored by video surveillance and violators will be prosecuted.

100 Yard Range

Under the guidance of Mike Thornton, of Thornton’s Construction, we designed a new 100 yard range, with shooting shelter, permanent precast concrete shooting stations and a garage/storage building. We far exceeded our dreams for this range, and it is because of the donors and professional guidance we received along the way.

The 100 yard range is intended for long gun use and skeet/clay pigeon shooting is prohibited.

Directions

While primary use of the facility is designed to encourage youth and their families to explore and enjoy the outdoors and traditional activities, other community groups, military groups, and students have been allowed access to the area and Youth Club equipment.

The Pickerel Pond facility is located outside the town of Milford in TWP32MD. The cabin, shooting range, Adirondack shelters, fishing docks and storage facilities have been built with donations both monetary and in-kind support from individuals, organizations, local governments and businesses. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife owns the land where the facilities are located.
